This project is a conceptual and research-driven book that defines and visually interprets mental disorders as classified in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). The publication is structured as an educational and experiential resource, aiming to translate complex psychological definitions into a clear, accessible, and visually engaging format.
The book is divided into seven chapters and explores a total of 36 mental disorders. Each chapter focuses on a specific group of conditions, combining text and imagery to create a cohesive narrative that balances clinical accuracy with emotional sensitivity.
The design process spanned an entire academic semester and was deeply rooted in research. Textual content was drawn from academic psychology literature and verified sources such as Wikipedia and professional psychology books.
Visual imagery was generated using artificial intelligence tools (CLIP Guided Diffusion, 2022), allowing for abstract and conceptual representations of mental states that go beyond literal illustration.
This project examines the intersection of design, psychology, and emerging technology. It reflects a critical approach to visual communication, using experimental tools and rigorous research to explore how design can interpret, communicate, and humanize complex mental health topics.
